Ready, steady, tomorrow – go!

15.09.2016

September, 15, two races will open SB20 Russian Open. Wednesday, at the Yacht-club St. Petersburg there was registration and measurement procedure.

23 teams are allowed to the start of the regatta – 73 sportsmen from eight regions of the country: Moscow, Moscow Region, Vladivostok, Karelia, Kirov region, Saratov, Leningrad region and St. Petersburg. 68 participants are men, 5 – women. The youngest participant is only 15 years, the oldest – 60. All of the sailors here are Russians, therefore overall standings coincides with national.

As planned, the organizers held a training race after the registration. The chairman of the Race Committee, Elena Morozova – about how it was held:

“Almost everyone who had finished their registrations up to 15 p.m., went to the start. Weather conditions were favorable: steady wind near 8 m/s, a small wave of up to 0.5 meters. Two 0.8 miles loops racers passed per 40 minutes. Tomorrow, we will establish a longer distance in such a way that one race would take for about an hour”.

I think today’s training was useful for the competitors: they met with a distance, checked their equipment and the settings. Some teams were replenished with new people almost here, in St. Petersburg – therefore, this training chance was strictly required for them.

The training race also showed that everyone is ready for the competitions: either the judges, or athletes. There is a good understanding between the judges. Before tomorrow’s race, I wish sailors to maintain materiel safely and treat each other with respect during the race”.
