Optimistic plans

11.09.2014

Light morning breeze on Thursday, September 11, gave organizers and participants of the SB20 World Championship 2014 a hope that plans to handle today 4 races can be realized. At 9 a.m. there was a skippers’ briefing, where the Race Committee Chairman and the President of the International Class Association took some speeches.
The Head of the Race Committee confirmed preparedness to handle the highest possible number of races. The International Jury Chairman paid yachtsmen’s attention on details in Rules of the Class, according to which there is no limitation on sails replacement, so any of them can be done between races.

Then the President of Class took his speech. In his opinion, the last racing day should be used “at full program”: forecast promises good winds, and it is possible not to limit the last race by 14:00 (according to the Notice of the Race), but postpone it to 16:00. Anyway, it can be decided only with a full consent of racers.

Today, the first race was planned for 10:30 a.m., but it started only at 11 a.m. According to judges’ messages, there is a 5-6 kn wind at the distance. Only 45 yachts are on the water now: 3 boats left in the harbor for different reasons. Preliminary results will be known near midday.

Deputy of the Race Committee Chairman Anna Deyanova:
– Today is the main day, and the Principal Race Officer is very resolute. Now we are going to the water. For now, we will try to hadle at least one race, to make the Championship valid.

Recall, for now organizers have already handled 4 races. At first places in the preliminary general table stand crews of Evgeny Neugodnikov (RUS 3328), Hugo Rosha (ESP 3711) and Salomon Mattieu (FRA 3653). To execute all the terms of the Notice of the Race it is necessary to handle at least one race.
